My name is Mairead. I’m a freshman in High School and I live outside of Boston. During the winter, almost everyone gets sick at some point. Being sick is awful, even though sometimes you can miss a day of school. I hate getting sick so I have found some useful tips to help you not get sick.
After school you have touched many surfaces, all filled with millions of germs. When you get home you should always wash your hands especially before you eat. While washing your hands make sure to do it for at least a minute getting soap on your wrists as well.
2. Carry around hand sanitizer
In school you should always carry around hand sanitizer because it will kill all the germs on your hands. You should always use it right before you eat so the germs won’t enter into your system. Many convenience stores carry pocket-sized hand sanitizers so next time your at CVS you should pick one up. Also, stores like Bath & Body works carry hand sanitizers that smell really good. These might be good because you look forward to putting it on rather than the regular kind.
During the fall or beginning of winter, you should be thinking of getting a flu shot. The flu is one of the worst sicknesses you can get and if you get a flu shot you only have a 10% chance of getting it.
4. Get enough sleep
You should always at least get 8 hours of sleep or more. If you don’t get enough sleep, your bodies abilities to suppress and fight off illness decreases. Also, drink at least 6 cups of water a day to stay hydrated.
5. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables
You should always be eating fruits and vegetables, but if you don’t want to get sick they are necessary. Fruits and vegetables have lots of vitamins and antioxidants that will fight off germs.
6. Take Vitamin C
Every morning, you should take a Vitamin C pill to avoid sickness. Vitamin C is needed by white blood cells to destroy bacteria and viruses.
7. Laugh
Laugh! It has been proven that if you laugh, you boost your immunity and strengthen your heart. Also, it improves lung functioning.
8. Stretch
Stretching improves your blood circulation and increases your energy levels. A good time to do it is when you wake up in the morning. This will be good if your on your way to school because you will be awake.
